Hi there! Welcome to the first post of my blog where I am here to gush over books, writing and everything in between. With that said, I’m Becs. I am 24 years young from Manchester in the United Kingdom, and I have been on my writing journey officially since 2020 when I started writing my debut novel, but I have been writing long before then since the age of 10. I have always loved creating stories, from dabbling in fanfiction (we’re all guilty of it…right?) to creating worlds in my head that I have now migrated to paper and created a real-life novel! I’m still pinching myself over that part.
Centre Stage is my debut novel. It started as a seed of an idea when I was still at University during my script writing module. I created a script surrounding the classic closeted story of a young actress hiding her girlfriend and true self from her parents. For the sake of a 30-page script, it worked out well. But lockdown hit and I saw an opportunity to create my novel for real, I wanted to take this story and make it different. Through taking my creative writing master's, I started to plan. I didn’t want this to be the usual coming out story of ‘girl in the closet from the world’ but more of ‘girl in the closet from herself’ as I had some personal feelings about that at the time.
The book, though not autobiographical, does reflect some of my internal monologues through both main characters in their experiences with sexuality and grief. Thus, Centre Stage was born. A story that follows a woman in her mid-twenties who came out to everyone around her—except herself. Because the first person you have to come out with is yourself. But what happens if you can’t? Of course, it’s a dream for my books to be held in as high of regard as the likes of the Brightfall Series by Ashley Herring Blake but if my book even makes just a handful of people happy then that is time well spent. You can find more about my book on my page here.
Outside of writing and, of course, being a bookworm, I have lived many past lives as a fangirl for various fandoms spanning the years. Hyperfixation is not for the weak. I love television, film, and unwinding with something crafty. I am a tea fiend as everyone around me will tell you. My favourite book is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I’m an Aries. My favourite colour is green. I’m bisexual in a very happy relationship.
And I can’t wait to share more of my work.
